Serves 2
Ingredients
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1-2 dried bay leaves
1 pouch of pre-cooked brown basmati rice (we like Seeds of Change)
Water, as needed
1. Heat the oil in a heavy bottomed pan and add all of the spices. Saute the spices until fragrant.
2. Add in the brown basmati rice and saute for several minutes to allow the rice to absorb the flavors from the spices.
3. Add a small amount of water to completely cook rice. Continue adding until rice is completely cooked.
Depending on the type of meal you're serving it with you may want to add juice of half a lemon to brighten up the rice!
We love this rice! Basmati rice has a fabulous texture and flavor but can be difficult to find in whole grain form. A big reason many people don't eat brown rice is that it takes over twice the cooking time as white rice. That's why we love these pouches - great for a fast, healthy weeknight meal with minimal (1%) added salt.
